The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Project for Windows, versions 1.0, 3.0, 3.0a, 4.0 - Microsoft Project for the Macintosh, versions 1.1, 3.0, 4.0

The following information also applies to resource information.

If task information is in a nondefault order (Descending ID), the Edit Insert command causes records to be inserted between the active record and the preceding record.

If you have just three tasks (ID 1-3) that have been sorted in descending order according to ID, the tasks are displayed in the order 3,2,1, and the fourth task is the blank record 4. Because only those records with information are sorted, all other records remain in default order.

Selecting the three tasks, then choosing Edit Insert (Insert, Instert task using version 4.0) causes three records to be inserted between tasks 2 and 3. Task 3 is pushed down to the sixth ID. The tasks then appear in the order 6,2,1, and the fourth task is ID 3.
