- Microsoft Word for the Macintosh, versions 3.0 , 3.01, 3.02, 4.0 5.0, 5.10

SUMMARY

When you use the Find or Change command in Microsoft Word, only the main body of the document, not the header(s), footer(s), or footnotes, is scanned for the search text.

The number in the lower-left corner reflects the number of times the text was found and replaced in the main body text.

To perform a search and replace in a header, footer, or footnote text, open the appropriate window before choosing the Find or Change command; note that only that subsection of the document is searched.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Word for the Macintosh versions 3.x, 4.0, 5.x. This problem was corrected in Word for the Macintosh version 6.0.
