SUMMARY

With Microsoft Word for MS-DOS version 5.0, you need to obtain a new fontware installation kit from Bitstream to use Bitstream fonts. This installation kit (Fontware 2.00) is necessary only to create new .PRD and .DAT files. The Bitstream typefaces (fonts) themselves are not changing.

Fontware 2.00 generates overwrite error messages in the error log when the installation kit tries to create the font description files. None of the Bitstream fonts are lost in the process, just overwritten.

Because the typefaces and the .HPF and .PFM file extensions are not changing, you still have access to the old fonts in Windows applications. This also means that you do not lose the use of any extra typefaces you may purchase when you upgrade to Word 5.0.
