Field Names Can Be Only 10 Characters Long in dBASE

SUMMARY
There is a limit of 10 characters in a field name. If a field name is longer than 10 characters, all of the characters beyond the tenth are truncated.
For example, if you create a dBASE III file in Excel and name one of the fields in the database "commissions," the final "s" is truncated when you save the file in Excel and open it in Q+E. The field name appears as "commission".
This is a limitation of the dBASE file format.
