File: Numbers Changing to Dates

Last reviewed: October 27, 1994
Article ID: Q44859

Summary:

When you enter an integer in a field that is formatted as a Date field, Microsoft File converts the number into a date.

If the number you enter is between 1 and 31, the number you enter is considered the day, and the current month and year are considered the month and year.

If the number is greater than 31, the number is considered the year, and the current day and month are considered the day and month. The date will display in the format that was selected when the Date field was created, as shown in the following example (where January and 1989 are the current month and year, respectively):

If the Format Is You Type File Converts to the Following
   ---------------- -------- ------------------------------

   Long 2 January 2, 1989

   Medium 2 Jan 2, 1989

   Short 2 1/2/89
