PSS ID Number: Q44661 Article last modified on 03-15-1995

WINDOWS | MACINTOSH

The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Project for Windows, version 1.0 - Microsoft Project for the Macintosh, version 1.1

If a resource and associated cost information have been assigned to a task, cost information will be displayed. If the task duration is changed to reflect zero days, the cost data will not be updated. Therefore, an 8 hour task allocated a single resource that has a cost of $8 per hour will have a total cost of $64. Changing the task duration to 0 will not cause the cost to become $0, but will make it remain at $64.

This feature of Project for Windows allows you to enter any fixed costs that are not associated with “real” resources and thereby have cost categories that are assigned unique, fixed costs that will not be overwritten by later changes.
