Word: Support for Expanded Memory

PSS ID Number: Q44456 Article last modified on 11-02-1994

5.00

MS-DOS

SUMMARY

Word Version 5.00 is the first version of Word that takes advantage of expanded memory that meets LIM (Lotus/Intel/Microsoft) Version 3.2 or later specifications. Word can use up to 8 MB of expanded RAM.

To determine if the expanded memory is set up correctly, refer to your expanded-memory software manufacturer. Word does not have a method of informing you if the expanded memory is set up correctly and, therefore, whether it is being used or not. If the expanded memory is not set up correctly, Word does not attempt to use it and uses only the 640K of low or conventional memory accessed by DOS.

To disable Word’s use of expanded memory, start Word with the /x switch (e.g. WORD /X).
