The Fraction formula allows fractional numbers to be created in Microsoft Word documents. The following steps show how to create the fraction “1/2” (one-half):

  1. From the Edit menu, choose Show Paragraphs.

  2. Press COMMAND+OPTION+ (BACKSLASH) to create the formula symbol (.).

  3. Type the following:

    1. A capital letter “F” followed by a left parenthesis “(”.

    2. The numerator value “1” (without the quotation marks) followed by a comma and the denominator value “2” (without the quotation marks).

    3. Follow these values with a right parenthesis “)”.

    The resulting formula should resemble the following:

    .(1,2)

  4. From the Edit menu, choose Hide Paragraphs to view the resulting fraction.
