SUMMARY

In Microsoft Word for DOS versions 4.0 and 5.0, inserting a character style with a variant of 1 and no assigned key code in a style sheet causes the error message to appear:

Scrap is empty

The error message occurs if there is not a Character Style of variant 1 already defined in the style sheet.

Steps to Reproduce Problem

  1. Go to the Gallery menu.
  2. Choose Transfer Clear if the current style sheet has a character style with a variant of 1 already defined.

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Word versions 4.0 and 5.0. This problem was corrected in Word version 5.5.
