SUMMARY

Pressing CTRL+F3 to invoke macro step mode during a search-and-replace action causes the search and replace to become invalid. The search-and-replace action may begin replacing incorrect words, or the message “Searching…” may remain on the screen until you abort the macro.

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Word for DOS version 5.0. This problem was corrected in Word for DOS version 5.5. In Word 5.5, CTRL+F3 does not toggle you into step mode while a macro is running. Macros can be toggled into step mode by hitting the ESCAPE key to pause the macro, checking the “Single Step” check box, and then pressing ENTER.
