MS-DOS

SUMMARY

In Microsoft Word for DOS version 5.0, the first character of a running head that is preceded by a tab and formatted for edge-of-paper alignment takes on the formatting of the tab character.

To work around this problem, format the tab in the same manner as the running head. Do not use a leading tab character or align the running head for left-margin alignment.

Steps to Reproduce Problem

  1. Create a running head and precede it with a tab.
  2. Format the tab as bold and the running head text as normal.
  3. Format the running head for edge-of-paper alignment.
  4. Print or preview the document and notice that the first text character of the running head is bold and not normal.

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Word version 5.0. This problem was corrected in Word version 5.5.
