Word: Normal Style from Selection Not Pasted into New Document PSS ID Number: Q43978 Article last modified on 08-17-1993 PSS database name: APpsConV

Summary:

When you copy and paste any portion of a Microsoft Word document into a new document, the Normal style of the selection will not replace the Normal style of the destination document. All new styles or redefined automatic styles (other than Normal) will still import correctly, but if the styles are based on Normal, their appearance may also change.

In Word version 3.02, the Normal style will not import, but the character formats will still be applied to Normal text (so it appears as if it is part of the style). In Word version 4.00, however, the character format information will be lost if it is not defined for the Normal style in the destination document.

To correct this problem, redefine the Normal style in the destination document to include the same format information as it has in the source document.

Microsoft is researching this problem and will post new information here as it becomes available.
