PRJ: Duration/Work Values Changed When Exporting

Q43621

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Project for Windows, versions 1.0, 3.0, 3.0a, 4.0
  • Microsoft Project for the Macintosh, versions 1.1, 3.0, 4.0

SUMMARY

When exporting project data to a non text-based format such as WKS, WK1 or XLS, duration values are exported based on the default work units or duration units.

MORE INFORMATION

For example, if the duration units are set to days, and two tasks are entered that have 10W and 5D durations, then upon export to the XLS format, the 10W task will show as 50 (5 days per week x 10 weeks) whereas the 5D task will show as 5.

Project exports duration and work units as numbers so that they can be useful in computations in spreadsheet applications.
