SUMMARY
When the Paradise VGA card is configured for monochrome VGA mode, the following display problems result:
- The mouse cursor is not visible.
- In text mode, certain character formatting will result in the text disappearing on the screen. The character formats causing this problem are italic, underline, strikethrough, smallcaps, double underline, superscript, subscript, and hidden text.
Paradise provides a utility that allows the card to be configured for monochrome VGA mode. Configuring the card for monochrome mode using this software does not result in true Monochrome Display Adapter (MDA) mode. Instead, it sets the card for a four-color gray-scale mode, which results in the problems described above. A special video driver would be necessary for Word to work properly with these cards in this mode.
Microsoft Word Version 5.00 does not provide the screen driver and does not support monochrome VGA video configuration if it has been configured using a software set-up utility rather than hardware controls.
Both the Paradise VGA Professional Card and the Paradise Super VGA cards use a software utility to configure the card for monochrome VGA mode.
