SUMMARY

In Microsoft Word version 5.0 when using the Format Border Box command with a graphics file, Word will automatically insert white space around the graphic image. There is no way to eliminate the white space at the top or bottom.

A workaround for this problem is to resize the graphic approximately 0.25 inch less in the “graphic height:” and “graphic width:” fields of Library Link Graphic. This method will give a complete white border around the graphic. This border looks more natural than just white space on the top and bottom.

The Format Border Box command is a paragraph bordering command. This means that the Format Border Box command “automatically” puts in approximately one half line of white space around a paragraph to compensate for the width of the box line. When this is done around a text paragraph, it looks normal and unnoticeable. However, when the box is put around a graphic image, the extra half line compensation at the top and bottom of the graphic image shows up as white space.
