3.0x Level Styles Change When Converted to Word 4.00

SUMMARY
In Word version 4.00, after opening a Word versions 3.0x document containing any Level (between 3 and 9, inclusive) style, the left indent for that style will be different if it was not redefined in Word 3.0x. In other words, if a Level 3-9 style is the default in Word 3.0x, the left indent will change when the file is imported into Word 4.00.
In Word 4.00, the left indent for the new Heading style is always set at “0” (zero) inches for Heading 1-2 styles, .25 inches for Heading 3-4 styles, and .5 inches for Heading 5-9 styles. The first-line indents, however, are not altered from their definition in Word 3.0x.
The change is for easier visualization of the outline when not in Outline mode. To change the styles in Word 4.0 to reflect those in Word 3.0x, do the following:
- Position the insertion point in a heading to which the heading style you want to change has been applied.
- Choose Show Ruler from the Format menu.
- Drag the left indent to the desired position on the ruler.
- Select the Heading style name in the style combination box on the ruler. Press ENTER.
- Select the “Redefine the style based on selection” option. Click OK.
