The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Word for the Macintosh, version 4.0

SUMMARY

In Word versions 3.x, a breakthrough tab is any tab that is positioned to the right of the right indent in the ruler. In Word 4.00, however, any tab aligned with the right indent is also a breakthrough tab.

A breakthrough tab allows you to tab to – and beyond – the right indent for a paragraph. You can then type text beyond the right indent and the text will not wrap until it extends to about 20 inches on the ruler (or until you press RETURN).
