Line Numbering Starts at 2 for Bordered Paragraph at Top

SUMMARY

In Microsoft Word version 5.0, line numbering will occur incorrectly in the following instance:

  1. Enter a paragraph and format it with Format Border Box or with Format Line Above.
  2. Choose Format Division line-Numbers and set it to Yes.
  3. Print or preView the document. Notice that the line numbering starts at “2” instead of “1”.

This problem occurs only when the first paragraph of the page is boxed or contains a top-border line.

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Word version 5.0. This problem was corrected in Word version 5.5.
