SUMMARY

Print preView displays font attributes even if they are not supported on the printer specified in the “model:” field of Print Options.

To see an example of this problem, do the following:

  1. Specify HPLASMS.PRD as your printer driver.
  2. Specify LaserJet Series II as the model.
  3. Format some text for Courier italic and some for Courier Bold.
  4. Go into Print preView. Notice how the italic text displays as italic and the bold text displays as bold even though these attributes are not supported in the Courier font with the HPLASMS.PRD printer driver.

Font size is not considered to be a character attribute. If you specify a font size that is not supported on your printer, Word remaps this font to the next closest font size found in the specified printer driver. This remapping occurs when preViewing the document and when printing the document.
