MS-DOS 4.x Not Compatible with Some XT Clocks PSS ID Number: Q41073 Article last modified on 02-04-1993 PSS database name: O_MSDOS

4.00 4.01

MS-DOS

The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft MS-DOS operating system versions 4.00 and 4.01

Summary:

On Franklin and Vendex XT-compatible computers, Microsoft MS-DOS versions 4.0 and 4.01 do not keep track of the year. The month, date, and time are accurate, but the year portion of the date is incorrect.

The Franklin and Vendex computers execute a program named TIMER.COM (with no options) during boot time via the AUTOEXEC.BAT file. This program may be incompatible with Microsoft MS-DOS versions 4.0 and 4.01. It apparently doesn’t set the year correctly when executed.
