MS-DOS

The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft MS-DOS operating system versions 4.00 and 4.01

Summary:

On Page 393, in Section 5.3.1, “Font File Structure,” of the “Microsoft MS-DOS 4.00 Programmer’s Reference,” the structure of the .CPI codepage font file is described. The first element of the file, the 23-byte File Header structure, contains the 8-byte File Tag field. This field identifies the file as a valid MS-DOS codepage font file. This field begins with the ASCII byte 0FFH and is followed by the 7-byte string shown below:

“font”

Note that there are three trailing spaces after the lowercase “font”. The documentation incorrectly documents this as follows, which is proper grammatical English (but an invalid font tag):

“font.”

Note: This documentation error does not occur in later versions.
