Summary:
Sometimes when doing print merge with Microsoft Word, the following error message is displayed, although the print merge may not be a nested merge:
Merge quotes too deeply nested
This error message is normally caused by a missing ending chevron (right international quotation mark, >>) around a merge field in the main document. The missing chevron location is usually towards the beginning of the file.
Closing all fields with the ending chevron (obtained by the keystroke SHIFT+OPTION+) corrects the error condition.
