- Microsoft Word for the Macintosh, version 4.0

SUMMARY

The Outlining mode in Word version 4.00 has several improvements over Word version 3.02. The following are examples of the improvements:

  1. To make it easier to use the mouse in Outline View, each paragraph has its own icon that you can use to select the paragraph and all subheadings and text beneath it. You can use the icon to drag the heading and its subheadings up or down within the document, and to the left or right to promote or demote the heading and subtext.
  2. You can still use icons in the icon bar, or you can use key combinations (which you can reassign with the Commands command, if desired).
  3. A new icon (ff) at the right end of the icon bar toggles (that is, alternately turns on and off) the display of character formatting in the outline.
  4. Another new icon (…) near the right end of the icon bar toggles between displaying all body text or the first line of each body text paragraph followed by ellipses.
