You chose the Library Spell Proof command, and as Spell proofs your document, it reports the number of words checked and unknown.

Word 5.00 Message: “xxx words checked, xxx unknown”

You chose the Library Spell command; as Spell checks your document, it keeps track of the number of words checked and the number of words unknown. When Spell is finished or if Exit is chosen before Spell is finished, it reports the number of words checked and unknown.

MORE INFORMATION

“Words Checked” is the number of words checked so far. For example, if the word “the” was used 20 times in the document, it counts as 20 words in the “total words” statistic.

“Unknown” refers to the current number of words in the document that Spell cannot find in any of the dictionaries.
