The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Word for MS-DOS versions 4.0, 5.0, 5.5, 6.0

SUMMARY

In Microsoft Word for MS-DOS version 6.0 the following error message:

Record #: This Record Has Too Few Fields or a Missing Separator.

or in Microsoft Word versions 4.0, 5.0 and 5.5 the following error message:

Too Few Fields in Data Record

means that one of the records in the data document named in the DATA instruction has fewer fields than the header paragraph or header file. Either a field has been omitted from the record, or a separator (comma, tab, or semicolon) has been omitted.

Do one of the following:

  1. Press ESC to cancel the print merge. Add the comma to separate two fields.
  2. Add the missing field to the data record.

Another cause of this message is a blank line after the header record or between two data records. To search for a blank line in a large data document, enter PP in the “text:” field of the Search command and carry out the command.
