SUMMARY

It has been reported that running Microsoft Word on an IBM-compatible XT Turbo computer while in turbo mode can result in a “Printer Not Ready” error message when you try to print.

This problem occurs because the faster turbo clock speeds are not as reliable as normal nonturbo clock speeds and can cause printer time-out errors.

To correct this problem, take the computer out of turbo mode or try using a DOS MODE command to set the printer port up for perpetual retry.

For example:

mode LPT1:,,p mode COM1: 9600,n,8,1,p

In both cases, the final “p” sets up the printer/communication port for perpetual retry.
