Summary:
When searching for a text string in Microsoft File, use an asterisk (*) as a wildcard character for a series of characters. For example, "*land" (without quotation marks) would find "Kirkland," "Ireland," and "Portland."
The question mark can also be used as a wildcard for any single character (one character only) in a specific position within a search string. For example, "?at" (without quotation marks) would find "fat" and "bat." For more information, see pages 93-94 in the "Microsoft File for the Apple Macintosh" manual.
