Transferring Excel Formats into Word with Library Link

MS-DOS

SUMMARY

Word does not transfer integer formats correctly when importing Microsoft Excel spreadsheet data with the Library Link command. However, Word does retain the number format of the imported data.

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem with Word Version 4.00. This problem was corrected in Word Version 5.00.

MORE INFORMATION

Word recognizes several of the formats listed under the Format Number menu in Excel. The following list outlines how these formats transfer into Word:

  1. Integer-formatted numbers transfer not as whole numbers but as unformatted numbers with unlimited decimal places.

  2. Fixed-decimal-formatted numbers correctly transfer to two decimal places.

  3. The commas in numbers transfer except when combined with currency formats.

  4. Currency symbols transfer, with the following exceptions:

    1. Dollar signs transfer to the right of the value (instead of on the left), unless the format is fixed decimal, when the dollar sign transfers to the right as a percent symbol (%).

    2. The commas in currency numbers do not transfer.

  5. Percent formats transfer.

  6. Exponential formats do not transfer.

  7. Date formats transfer as serial numbers.
