Summary:
When saving multiple windows of a sheet (sheet1:1, sheet1:2, …) in Microsoft Excel for Windows, the sheets sometimes have different extensions when you reopen them.
An example is as follows:
Before After —— —–
Sheet1.xls:1 ———-> Sheet1.xls:2
Sheet1.xls:2 ———-> Sheet1.xls:1
Sheet1.xls:3 ———-> Sheet1.xls:3

There are two ways to save the windows and preserve the correct extensions. Use one of the following methods:
- If you are using the File Save or File Save As command, activate the windows in ascending order (start with the first and end with the last). While the last sheet is active, save the windows.
-or-
- If you are using the Save Workspace As command, activate the windows in descending order (start with the last and end with the first). While the first window is active, save the workspace.
For either method, you can easily arrange the windows in the proper order by using the Window Arrange All command, clicking the windows in the appropriate order, and saving the windows.
