Word version 4.00 error message: “Not a Valid Font Name”

Word version 5.00 error message: “Not valid font name; press F1 to select from list” Word version 5.50 error message: “The font name is not valid.” The following are causes and workarounds for the message:

  1. You entered the name of a font that is neither one of the generic font names nor one of the printer-specific font names for the printer specified in the printer field of Print Options.

    Enter a valid font name.

  2. You left the command field blank.

    Press F1 and select from the list of available font names or type one of the generic font names. See “Printer Information for Microsoft Word” for a list of generic font names.
