Summary:

When creating an area chart, Excel automatically uses the absolute values of the worksheet data. To have the area chart reflect the negative values, you must adjust the formatting by doing the following:

  1. From the Chart Format menu, choose Main Chart.
  2. From Excel 3.0, select the first Area Chart and choose OK. If you are using Excel 2.x, clear the Stacked check box under the Format Section, then choose OK.
