The style bar appears along the left-window border of Word and displays the ALT+ key combinations for the assigned paragraph styles and the codes that represent the placement of running heads and divisions.

The following lists defines these codes:

Symbol Definition —— ———-

  • (asterisk) A paragraph that is not defined on the attached style sheet. It is a standard paragraph that has no manual formatting applied to it other than the defaults.

1-2 Characters The key code used with the ALT key to assign the style from the style sheet.

blank A paragraph that has either manual formatting applied to it, or has a Standard paragraph style that has no key code assigned.

b Running head for the bottom of both odd- and even- numbered pages; may include the first page.

be A running head for the bottom of even-numbered pages.

bf A running head for the bottom of the first page of the division.

bo A running head for the bottom of odd-numbered pages.

t A running head for the top of both odd- and even- numbered pages; may include the first page.

te A running head for the top of even-numbered pages.

tf A running head for the top of the first page of the division.

to A running head for the top of odd-numbered pages.
