F11 Key Never Finds Field in First Position of WinWord File PSS ID Number: Q37852 Article last modified on 07-21-1994

Summary:

The Find Next Field feature (F11) never finds a field that is located at the beginning of the first line of a document, even if the insertion point is before the field. With the insertion point in the space before the field, Microsoft Word for Windows considers the field to be selected, causing the field after the first field to be found.

To make sure that all fields are found, insert a space or paragraph mark at the beginning of the document before beginning the search.

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Word for Windows versions 1.0, 1.1, and 1.1a. This problem was corrected in Word for Windows version 2.0. New or updated Microsoft products can be obtained by calling Microsoft Sales Information Center at (800) 426-9400. If you call from outside the United States, contact Microsoft International Customer Service at (206) 936-8661.
