Summary:

In Microsoft Word for Windows version 1.x, if you open an RTF document written by another person whose name appears in the document summary and you save the document as a Normal document under a different filename, the Save As dialog displays your name rather than the original author’s name.

Workaround

To retain the original author’s name, the file must be saved with the same name that it had when you opened it. To save with the same name, follow the steps below:

  1. Make a backup of the file to avoid losing the original document.
  2. Open the RTF file. Word requests you confirm the file format. Choose the OK button.
  3. From the File menu, choose Save. Choose Yes when Word prompts, “Overwrite foreign format FILENAME.RTF with normal Word format?”

The resulting file is in Word’s Normal format with the original author listed in the summary. If the document does not have a .DOC extension, rename the document.
