PRB: Resetting Configuration Parameters to Defaults ID Number: Q37629

1.00 1.11 4.20 OS/2

Summary:

SYMPTOMS The memory parameter of SQL Server was inadvertently set too high and cannot be reset because the SQL server will not come up.

RESOLUTION One method to reset the SQL Server configuration parameters is to reload the master database; however, the BLDMASTR utility -r option will reset the configuration parameters to the defaults without affecting the master database or user databases. The -d parameter must be used to specify the name of the MASTER.DAT file. If MASTER.DAT was originally case-insensitive, the -C option must also be specified.
