PSS ID Number: Q36896 Article last modified on 04-20-1993

3.00 | 3.00 MS-DOS | OS/2

The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft COBOL for MS-DOS and OS/2, version 3.0

Summary: If you encounter the message “Cannot find C:.LIB” after invoking LINK.EXE, look very closely at the version number of the linker displayed on the screen. You may be using an incorrect linker. The correct version should be 5.02.05, or later. If you have more than one LINK.EXE program on your disk, you should make sure that your PATH environment variable is set up to find the right linker.

More Information: To see what your PATH variable looks like, type SET at the DOS prompt; your PATH variable may look like the following example: PATH=C:;C: If the correct linker is not in the current directory then DOS will search down the PATH variable to find LINK.EXE. You can see a problem with the above PATH if C:contains an older LINK.EXE. To fix the problem, swap the positions of the two directories as follows: SET PATH=C:;C:
