SUMMARY

The error message:

File not found

appears when the speller attempts to process changes after a word has been corrected and then the correction has been undone.

The following steps illustrate the problem:

  1. Correct a word.
  2. Select Previous to go back to the corrected word.
  3. Select Ignore, which reverses the correction.
  4. Select Quit without correcting any other words in the document.
  5. Enter Y in response to the prompt.

The “File not found” message appears.

MORE INFORMATION

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem with Word Version 4.00. This problem was corrected in Word Version 5.00.

In Word 5.00, the proofing phase starts automatically, and the corrections are entered immediately into the document as they are being made, rather than saved into a temporary file and processed all at once as in Word 4.00.
