ENTER Terminates 3.0 SCREEN ACCEPT If No MS(1) or MS(2)

PSS ID Number: Q36579 Article last modified on 04-20-1993

The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft COBOL for MS-DOS and OS/2, version 3.0

Summary: Microsoft COBOL normally allows you to use the ENTER key to move from one field to the next in a SCREEN ACCEPT. If the MS(1) or MS(2) compatibility option was not chosen while running the SETUP.EXE program, the ENTER key terminates the accept in COBOL Version 3.0. This problem can be corrected by using the ADISCF.EXE program to redefine the ENTER key or to select the Microsoft V2 Compatibility option.

More Information: To change the ENTER key, do the following: 1. Type ADISCF. 2. Select F2 – Alter. 3. Select F8 – Key Control. 4. Select F3 – Function Map. 5. Use the DOWN ARROW to move to item 2 – Carriage Return. 6. Change the value in the brackets to 11. 7. Press ESC two times. 8. Select F4 to save. 9. Select F2 to make a new table. 10. Enter a name for the new table. 11. Select F6 – choose. 12. Select your new table name. 13. Press ESC to exit. Or you can select the Microsoft compatibility option by doing the following: 1. Type ADISCF. 2. Select F6 – choose. 3. Select 5. 4. Press ESC to exit. Note that Microsoft COBOL Versions 2.x always allow you to use the ENTER key to move from one screen field to the next in a SCREEN ACCEPT.
