The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Word for the Macintosh versions 4.0, 5.0, and 5.1

SUMMARY

In Microsoft Word for the Macintosh, use extreme caution if you plan to remove the Commands command from the Edit menu. It is best to assign a key combination to the command before removing it so that you can access it later.

Word versions 5.0 and 5.1

If the Commands command is removed from the Edit menu in Word 5.0, press the default key combination (SHIFT+OPTION+COMMAND+C) to access the Commands dialog box. Once you are in the Commands dialog box, locate the Command command in the list and add it back to the Tools menu. If the default keystroke for this command has been changed, then use the procedure for Word 4.0 listed below to add it back.

Word version 4.0

If you remove the Commands command and need to access it, you must quit the program and restart it using one of the following two methods, unless you have assigned a key combination to the Commands command.

  • Double-click a configuration file that has the Commands command on a menu or has a key combination assigned to that command.

    -or-

  • Rename the Word Settings (4) file (in the System Folder), or remove it from the System Folder, then restart the program by double-clicking the Word program icon. This method creates a new Word Settings (4) file (in the System Folder) with the default configuration settings, including having the Commands command on the Edit menu.
