SYMPTOMS
Double-spaced line spacing in Microsoft Word for Windows is always interpreted as 24 points per line, regardless of the font size of the selected text. For example, if you use a 9-point font size and choose the double-space option on the ruler, Word still allows 24 points per line. Similarly, 1 1/2 line spacing always measures 18 points per line.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the versions of Microsoft Word for Windows listed above. This problem was corrected in Word version 6.0 for Windows.

MORE INFORMATION
This feature may present some problems if you use a 24-point font and decide to change to double spacing. The line spacing does not appear to change because it is already set to 24 points per line.
