Works Cannot Return Strings from the IF Function

SUMMARY
In Microsoft Works for MS-DOS, the IF function, and any other formula or function, does not allow a string of text to be displayed as the result of a conditional statement.
For example, if Field1 contains the entry 100, the formula =IF(Field1=100,“One Hundred”,“Not One Hundred”) is not a valid formula.
Moreover, if cell A3 contains the text entry “Fred”, the formula =A3 will return a value of 0. This is because text strings cannot be evaluated in a formula, and are assigned a numerical value of 0.
Works cannot return a string (text) value in any formula or function. This feature is under review and will be considered for inclusion in a future release of Works.
