Undoing Hyphenation in Word for Windows |

The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Word for Windows, versions 1.0, 1.1, 1.1a, 2.0, 2.0a, 2.0a-CD, 2.0b, 2.0c, 6.0, 6.0a, 6.0c
In Word 6.0 for Windows, to remove hyphens added to a document by Word's Hyphenation command:
- From the Tools menu, choose Hyphenation.
- If the Automatically Hyphenate Document check box is selected, clear it, and choose OK.
If the check box was not selected when you opened the dialog box, choose the Manual button and choose No for each instance of unwanted hyphenation.
In Word 1.x and 2.x for Windows, the hyphenation character produced by the Hyphenation command is an optional hyphen. To globally delete the hyphenation characters produced by the Hyphenation command:
- From the Edit menu, choose Replace.
- In Word 1.x, type ^- in the Search For text box. In Word 2.x, type ^- in the Find What text box ("^" is created by pressing SHIFT+6).
- Leave the Replace With box empty.
- In Word 1.x, clear the Confirm Changes check box, then choose the OK button. In Word 2.x, choose the Replace All button, then choose the Close button.
