SUMMARY
Print Preview was added to Word beginning in version 5.00. Print Preview (Print preView) will allow you to preview documents before they are printed to verify that the page layout is correct. Pressing CTRL+F9 will toggle between preview mode and normal edit mode.
In Word versions 5.5, 6.0, Print Preview can be accessed from the File Print Preview (ALT, F, V) option or by pressing CTRL+F9.
Print Preview will be available only if a graphics adapter is installed. Otherwise, the Print Preview (Print preView) command will give the message “Graphics adapter required for Print Preview.”

In this mode, Word displays the document as it will be printed, one or two pages at a time. The page containing the cursor will be displayed first. All of the following page elements will be shown in their correct position:
Headers Footers Footnotes Page numbers Line numbers Side-by-side paragraphs Columns Positioned paragraphs Graphics Borders Revision marks
Merge codes will not be interpreted. The page will display as if Print Printer had been chosen.
If the “draft:” field in Print Options is set to Yes, the graphics won’t be displayed, but Word will leave an empty space where the graphic is positioned. If the graphics have borders, the border will be shown around the empty space.
The background of the scaled pages will be white, and the background behind the scaled pages will be the selected window background color.
It is not possible to edit the document in this mode. To edit the document, switch to Show Layout (ALT+F4) or normal edit mode (CTRL+F9).
