XADM: Information Store May Stop Responding Under Low Memory Conditions

SYMPTOMS

Under low memory conditions, the Microsoft Exchange Information Store may unexpectedly stop responding, and an access violation error message may appear on the console of the Exchange Server computer. If the correct Microsoft Windows NT and Exchange symbols are installed, the Dr. Watson log (drwtsn32.log) or the user dump file that is generated by Dr. Watson yields a call stack that is similar to the following call stack:

A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.

The English version of this fix has the file attributes (or later) that are listed in the following table. The dates and times for these files are listed in coordinated universal time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time tool in Control Panel.

Note Because of file dependencies, this fix requires Microsoft Exchange Server version 5.5 Service Pack 4.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Exchange Server version 5.5.
