SYMPTOMS

Microsoft PowerPoint 2002 may remain in memory after you view slides that contain one or more ActiveX controls. This may prevent other add-ins from running when you reopen PowerPoint.

CAUSE

This issue occurs when you insert a slide that contains ActiveX controls (such as the command button) into a slide presentation, you close all presentations without saving, and then you quit PowerPoint.

When you load a presentation that contains ActiveX controls, this adds a reference to the document and a reference to the frame. Under these circumstances, the reference to the document remains, which prevents the PowerPoint executable file (Powerpnt.exe) from completely closing.
