SYMPTOMS

You may receive the following Stop error message when you start the computer the first time:

Stop 0x00000050 (0xE1626822,0x00000001,0x804EFF46,0x00000002)

CAUSE

The problem occurs when a registry value is set to NULL, but it is supposed to be a double-null terminated string. When the computer is initialized, it references the null string and the Stop error that is described in the "Symptoms" section occurs.

RESOLUTION

Service Pack Information

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 4. This problem is resolved in Windows XP.
