SYMPTOMS

An access violation may occur when a program or a service tries to update information in Active Directory.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if the Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) provider DLL enumerates properties incorrectly and processes property cache information that is not valid.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 4.
