SYMPTOMS

Programs that use cryptographic functions that are provided by Schannel.dll may experience a memory leak. Programs that make many Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) connections rapidly may experience this leak. For example, Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5 Service Pack 4 (SP4) experiences this leak. The leak occurs in the Lsass.exe process when the Exchange Server computer is running on a Windows 2000 server.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when you access Exchange Server over Internet Message Access Protocol, Version 4rev1 (IMAP4) SSL port 993. If you use IMAP4 port 143 to access Exchange Server, this problem does not occur, because IMAP4 port 143 is not an SSL port.
