SYMPTOMS
An access violation may occur in Svchost.exe, and the Remote Procedure Call (RPC) service may stop with the following error in the event log:
CAUSE
The problem occurs because a pointer is freed two times. This causes heap corruption to occur in the process.
RESOLUTION

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 4.
