SYMPTOMS

When Plug and Play tries to remove a device object from a disk that no longer exists, the Clusdisk.sys driver may prevent the object from being removed. This may cause the Plug and Play thread to stop responding (hang) indefinitely.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 4.
